Here comes the sun!

Day three was beach day we weren’t going to spend all day there really we weren’t, only the clouds cleared and after a long cold winter it was so nice to feel the warmth of the sun on our bare skin. so nice.

Sabi was a little freaked by water that seamed to have a life of it’s own.

but she loved the kid made lagoon. We didn’t create it, just found traces in the sand like an ancient ruin lost to time. We re-dug the trench and the waves rushed in to make an ocean crΓ¨che.

Lani drawing love hearts in the sand, she’s so girly.

Eli throwing sand at the waves, he’s such a boy.

Lilly digging water, she’s such a wild thing.

Sabrina running in and out of the sparkly afternoon waves. She loved the beach. She did have a few wobbly moments when we first got there, when she wasn’t expecting the waves to rush straight up to her or that the sand would ooze around her feet and lock her to the earth. But other than that, no fear, up for anything, I’m really going to have to watch this one.

We stayed till the dipping sun no longer warmed the strong sea breeze. The kids were pretty desperate for Daddy to have a turn in the spa with them because he was at a conference do the night before and missed his turn. So we walked back to meet him stopping only briefly to play on the play equipment. I went and had a nice quiet shower something I’m not used to with four kids and they all splashed in the spa. Then we met up with Glenn’s Dad and had dinner at Sizzlers because they still exist in Queensland (they were deemed a health hazard in NSW when Glenn and I were still kids, MMMM cheezy toast how I miss thee). Then we carried our sleepy children home to their beds and started packing for the mammoth eleven hour drive ahead.

You do know you can buy cheezy toast at the supermarket? If you want I can ask my brother where he gets it, it’s lovely! πŸ™‚

  2. Sarah Slaven says:

Ooo no I didn’t know that does it come with a waiter to deliver it to my table??

  3. Hannah says:

Okay – “pan bread” from Woolworths. Apparently it sticks to the pan if you fry it, so Dan suggests grilling it. Sorry, no waiter!!

  4. Liz says:

You can make your own cheesy toast too. Just like sizzler. I’llhave o make some next time you come for dinner

  5. Hi Sarah,

Thanks for dropping in on my blog… being new to the whole home-schooling idea, I’m keen for any wisdom I can get! So, I had a little browse through your blog, and I think I’m hooked. πŸ˜‰ I really connected to your warm style, and your adventures as a family. I also want to commend the poetry of your words.

I noticed that you’re holidaying in Port Douglas at the moment… I haven’t been there since I was about 13, but we had an amazing time at the Corrumbin Wildlife Santuary also. We were staying in a place with cane chairs, and a resort feel, much as it looks you are.

We now live in Port Macquarie on the mid-north coast of NSW, and love the climate and holiday feel that our town has. We’ve decided to give home-schooling a go up here, and now that we’ve decided, I’m getting ridiculously excited trowling through all the online resources etc. This beginner’s enthusiasm is better than I imagined!

I also noticed that you suffered from hyperemesis with all of your pregnancies… my cousin recently visited us with her newborn baby girl… she too, suffered from hyperemesis for the duration of her pregnancy… I don’t think anybody can understand the severity of the condition unless they’ve seen it. She did not think she would survive the pregnancy… and thought that baby would be her only child. Funnily enough, now that she is out of the fog, she’s keen to do it all again! So your story of having four children, and suffering so much, is very encouraging. πŸ™‚ Especially that 20 month age gap… I cannot imagine how hard that must have been!

Anyway, I’d better stop taking up time on your precious holiday, but just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed readng your blog. πŸ™‚

    Take care,

    Hayley.

I am so looking forward to taking them all to the beach this summer – looks like you all had fun!

  7. Madeline says:

Beautiful place for a holiday! But, ouch on that 11 hour drive.

  8. Sarah Slaven says:

    Thanks Han πŸ™‚

Liz I’m not sure if I want to know exactly how it is made I’m sure the niceness was not necessarily goodness.

Hayley wow such lovely comments *Blushes* you can most defiantly come back and comment here any time you like. And for the record I’m caught on tape moments after Lani was born saying “lets have another one” so it’s easy to forget the yucky pregnancies once they’re gone and you finally get to hold the precious little one.

Kate I understand I have my mind so focused on summer at the moment I actually feel disappointment if I wake up and is another jumper day.

Madeline it’s so nice to have you around again though I don’t know how you can tear yourself away from that gorgeous little cutie pie, she’s so tiny and squishy πŸ™‚
